There are millions of books that Google Books provide for purchase as well as reading. In this, there are many many free books as well.
The only limitation with Google Books is that it only allows you to read the books. There is no option to download a book to your computer. Google Books Downloader is a free-ware tool for Windows which can help you download the books from Google easily as a PDF file.

To download a book, just specify the URL for that book from your browser Google Books window or tab. You can either download the book as a jpeg image or as a pdf file. The pdf option is preferable as big books can be difficult to be read as an image.

How to permanently delete files securely.

When you delete a file from your computer, it moves to the Windows Recycle Bin. You empty the Recycle Bin (or use "Shift+Delete" for deleting) and the file is permanently erased from your hard drive. Right?
Well, even though the file appears to be gone for good, here is the shocking fact - The file is not fully removed from your hard disk yet. Here's why:
When you delete files or folders, the data is not fully removed from the hard disk. Instead, the disk space that was occupied by the deleted data is "deallocated." That means all references to the data is removed. The space is later used when new data is written to the disk. Until the space is overwritten, it is possible to recover this data by using a low-level disk editor or data-recovery software.

To permanently erase files and prevent your confidential files from getting into wrong hands, you can use this free and easy to use program "File Shredder". File Shredder hides all the complexity giving you a simple right click windows context menu.
Once you click on "Secure delete files", it just asks for a confirmation and the file is fully erased from the hard disk.
You can use File Shredder both to securely delete existing files, as well as to securely erase any file data that exists in the unallocated portions of a disk (including files that you have already deleted or encrypted).

Add images in tweets

One of the features that made Facebook stand out from twitter was the visual effect. Yes,Facebook allowed rich media like photos and video, but twitter was more or less limited to text. Even I have googled for "how to add photos in tweets" just to find myself crying out - "damn it".
Well good news, twitter now has a new photo feature that allows users to add photos and even videos to tweets.
Adding photos or images is really simple. To add a photo to your tweets, just click on the camera icon located just below the text box for typing your tweets and you will be asked to upload a picture.
The picture shows up in your Tweets and timeline. Twitter has partned with Photobucket to host the pictures added to your tweets. You don't need a Photobucket account to upload or view photos, but beneath every photo in twitter, there is a "Powered by Photobucket" note which is kind of annoying.
By default, twitter only displays tweet images from people you follow.
Twitter has also announced plans to add higher level of integration with Apple’s iOS 5 (mobile OS), which also leverages the new photo service.

How to share large files over the internet easily

Many a times you want to share big files over the internet. Generally, there are two options that you can use to share files easily.
  1. Attach the files to an email message and send it to the other person(s).
  2. Upload files to an online storage service and share the download link.
Now let's explore the possibilities, available services and benefits of each of these options. Each has its own advantages depending on scenarios and you can select the best way to share files depending on your needs.
1. Attatch big files in E-mail.
The most popular e-mail services are Gmail, Yahoo and Hotmail. Both Gmail and Yahoo services cannot handle files of size bigger than 25Mb. Hotmail which recently re-vamped it's service lets you send messages upto 10GB.
But the maximum size of an individual file that you can attach to an Hotmail message is only 50 MB. Of course you can use a file-splitting utility like HJ-Split to break a big file into smaller chunks and then attach them all to a single message. The recipient can then join the files back using Hj-Split.
The downside with email attachments is obvious - most web-based email programs (including Gmail) will reject incoming messages that have big attachments and therefore, if you are sharing a big file via Hotmail, the recipients also have to be on Hotmail as well in order to receive that file.

2. Upload files to a free online storage service
The common online storage providers include Dropbox, File Dropper  and SkyDrive.
Dropbox can be installed as a utility on your computer (Windows, Linux and Mac) and you can upload files of virtually any size to the Internet - it’s only limited by the size of your Dropbox storage which is 2GB in the case of free accounts. If you don't want to install it, you can upload files straight to the Dropbox website using  your browser but the limit in this case is 300 MB per file.
File Dropper is simple, elegant, and the biggest of the bunch. 5GB! This should be fine for any rational uploader.Uploading a file is as easy as browsing for your file, and clicking “Upload.” Every file gets a permanent link that you’re free to share with your friends. As simple as that.
SkyDrive(From Microsoft) offers 25 GB of free online storage, with a limit of 50Mb on individual files. To share a big file, split it into chunks of 50 MB each and then upload them all to a single folder on SkyDrive. The recipient can download the entire folder as a ZIP or the files one by one and then join them all at his end.
That's it. Depending on which option you are comfortable with, choose one to share big files over the internet easily in a few simple steps.

Can mobile phone usage cause cancer

The World Health Organization on Tuesday(31st June 2011) announced that cell phone usage could cause brain cancer. Here are some things you would like to know regarding your cell phones.
Firstly, the WHO study did not say “cell phones cause brain cancer”. Rather, it said there is some evidence indicating a possible connection which warrants further study on the subject. To be more exact, they found evidence of increase in glioma and acoustic neuroma brain cancer for mobile phone users, but have not been able to draw conclusions for other types of cancers.
WHO has subsequently categorized cell phone radiation as a "group 2B" possible human carcinogen. Group 2B means that there is some evidence for a risk but it's not that convincing
Cell phone radiation is more like a very low-powered microwave oven. In simple terms, it's similar to what happens to food in microwaves, essentially cooking the brain. So in addition to cancer and tumors, there could be a whole host of other effects like cognitive memory function, since the memory temporal lobes of our brain is where we hold our cell phones.
So what can we do to lower the risk
Here are some tips that you can follow to reduce the ill effects of cell phone radiation.
  • Your best bet is to use a headset that plugs in to your phone. Unlike Bluetooth headsets, this guarantees no additional RF exposure near your head.
  • If using the phone without a headset, wait for the call to connect before placing the phone next to your ear. Radiation is maximum during connection times.
  • Try to always keep your mobile phone a few inches away from your body -- such as in your purse or on the table. Avoid the habit of keeping mobile phone in your shirt and trouser pockets.
  • Do not use the cell phone in enclosed metal spaces such as vehicles or elevators, where they radiate more to establish connection. The metal enclosure also acts as a Faraday cage that traps the radiation and reflects it back onto the occupants.
  • Do not make a call when the signal strength is one bar or less, which means the phone must emit stronger radiations to establish a connection. It is usually advisable to minimize calls when you are in an area with lesser coverage.
  • Prefer SMS or email or messaging services (if your phone supports have one) over a call.   This way you avoid putting the phone to your head altogether.
  • Children’s brains absorb radiation twice as much as adults. It is recommended to keep children from the phone to protect it from danger of the unknown future.
  • Purchase a phone with a low SAR (Specific Absorption Rate). In other words, a low radiation cell phone. Most phones have an SAR level listed in its instruction manual. The SAR level is a way of measuring the quantity of radio frequency (RF) energy that is absorbed by the body. The lower the number the better.
Conclusion
Personally I would take the WHO reports seriously. Especially considering that such a report has been published against an industry whose value is in thousands of billions of dollars. The terms like "may", "could", "not fully proved" etc could easily be suspected to be the contributions of pressure from these companies.
But mobile phones have not only become a convenience, but also an integral part of the development of an economy. The only thing we can do is to take care.. so please take care of yourselves and start today. And don't forget to make your friends and family aware of this too.

How to make facebook profile attractive

Today I was starring at my same old facebook page that I have been seeing for ages. The new photos at the top made it look a bit different, but it's all the same..

So I thought why not make it better. Then started the usual "googling" process. There were many sites showing good profiles with the new photo's feature, but didn't say how I can also make one easily.

Then I came across this one which just put me on the track (on a porche). The theory involved cutting a big closeup of yours into small pieces and placing them on your facebook profile page, so that as a whole, it seems like you are peeking from behind the page.
How to make facebook profile attractive

It explained three methods,
1. A simple website where you can submit a photo and it will cut and create smaller images for you.
2. Dimenstions with which to cut an image manually to create the smaller images you need
3. A ready made Gimp image with two layers. You can paste your image in one layer and you can just cut out smaller images from the marked sections.... simple really.

One should really try it out.
